Are you planning a trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE)? The good news is that depending on which country you are coming from you will be able to enter the UAE with no prior application for a visa. Once you arrive at an airport in the UAE, you will be eligible for a Visa On Arrival (VOA).

But before you pack your bags, it’s important to know what documents you’ll need. Let’s keep it simple.
Who Can Get a Visa on Arrival in UAE?
Not everyone qualifies. Some nationalities can get a visa on arrival, while others need to apply for a visa in advance. Citizens of certain countries can get a visa on arrival for 30 days with a 10-day grace period, while citizens of other countries are eligible for a 90-day visa on arrival. So first, check if your country is on the eligible list on the UAE government’s official website.
Documents You Need for Visa on Arrival in UAE
1. Valid Passport
This is the most important document. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into the UAE. If your passport is expiring soon, renew it before you travel. Also note that the UAE government does not accept 12-page emergency passports for entry.
2. Return Flight Ticket
You will need a confirmed round-trip airline ticket or an airline ticket to another destination. This shows immigration officials that you plan to leave the UAE after your visit.
3. Proof of Accommodation
You should be able to show where you’ll be staying. This can be a hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from a friend or family member living in the UAE.
4. Passport-Size Photograph
Carry a few recent passport-size photographs with a white background. Some counters may ask for these during the visa process.
5. Sufficient Funds
While not always checked, it’s a good idea to carry proof that you have enough money for your stay. This can be a bank statement or simply having enough cash or cards on you.
6. Completed Arrival Card
On your flight, you’ll usually be given an arrival card to fill in. Have your travel details, hotel address, and passport information ready so you can fill it out quickly.
Special Case: Indian Passport Holders
If you hold an Indian passport, the rules are a little different. Indian passport holders may be eligible for a 14-day single-entry visa on arrival if they hold a valid US visa or Green Card, a valid UK visa, or a valid visa or residence permit issued by any EU member state — all with at least six months of validity remaining.

- Always carry both printed and digital copies of your documents.

- Arrive with some UAE Dirhams (AED) handy, as some counters charge small fees payable in local currency.
