The UAE has a number of different types of visas, however; the majority of these can be grouped into around 5–6 main categories.
Category 1: Tourist / Visitor Visa
This category is the one that most people will come across when visiting or moving to the UAE. There are 3 main sub-categories within tourist visas including:
- A) Single entry visa (valid for 14 days).
- B) Multi entry visa (valid for 30 days).
- C) Single entry visa (valid for 60 days), and multi entry visa (valid for 90 days).
Additionally, this category also includes Transit visas.
Transit visas are valid for either 48 hours or 96 hours.
Tourist / Visitor visas are used for purposes such as:
- A) Tourism.
- B) Short visits to see friends and family.
Category 2: Employment (Work) Visa
This type of visa requires a sponsorship from an employer in the UAE.
Employment visas include a residence permit and an Emirates ID.
If you plan on working in Dubai or another Emirate in the UAE, this visa is likely your best option.
Category 3: Investor / Business Visa
This category includes visas for those starting businesses in the UAE or investing in the UAE.
It also includes partner visas/investor visas.
Investor / Business visas are popular among Entrepreneurs and business owners.
Category 4: Property (Real Estate) Visa
Property visas are issued to individuals who purchase property in the UAE with a minimum investment amount.
Property visas are often purchased by Indian investors purchasing real estate in the UAE.
Category 5: Golden Visa (Long Term Residency)
Golden visas provide long term residency (either 5 years or 10 years) to investors, professionals, entrepreneurs, and high income earners.
Unlike other visas, golden visas do not require a local sponsor.

Category 6: Student & Other Special Visas
Student visas are available for students enrolled at UAE universities.
In addition to student visas, freelance visas and remote work visas are also available.
There are also retirement visas available for older residents.
